3 tornadoes touched down in Florida yesterday.

A confirmed tornado touched down in Fort Lauderdale, Florida yesterday afternoon. It was caught on video tossing airport vehicles like toys. The tornado damaged the FedEx facility and a jet on the tarmac. The EF-0 tornado was on the ground for over 3 miles.

Another tornado touched down in downtown Fort Lauderdale and continued east for three and a half miles. Thankfully it was a very weak EF-0 tornado and no one was hurt. Only minor tree damage was reported with some fencing knocked over and trash cans tossed around.

Though tornadoes aren’t common in Florida, they do happen. Strong cold fronts can cause super-cell thunderstorms, especially in the winter, to rip through the peninsula. Tornadoes are also common in hurricanes that make landfall.
