A sophomore guard has been granted a release from the Oklahoma State basketball team.

Head Coach Mike Boynton confirmed Tuesday that Brandon Averette has requested a release from the Cowboys.

“Brandon and I met and talked about the future of Cowboys basketball,” Boynton said. "He felt it was in his best interest to pursue a different path for his educational and athletic career."

Averette played in every game for the Cowboys in his second year with the team, averaging 6.3 points and a team-high 2.9 assists per game.

"My staff and I enjoyed coaching Brandon, and I appreciate his contributions to Oklahoma State Basketball over the past two seasons. We wish him the best as he moves forward," Boynton said.
