OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) — Oklahoma City Public Schools will be closed April 2 due to a statewide teacher walkout.
All classes and activities will be cancelled for the district Monday, spokesperson Beth Harrison confirmed. The Oklahoma Education Association says that a teacher walkout and rally at the Capitol will still be held April 2.
Lawmakers passed a revenue package funding pay raises to teachers but fails to address raises for support professionals and does not meet the demands of fully restoring education funding.
OKCPS will provide meals at no cost at more than 100 neighborhood locations by using the district's school buses. All those 18 and under will be fed.
OKCPS teachers who are not participating in the rally are allowed to go to school, take a personal day or unpaid leave. All support staff are asked to report to work.
