A woman has been found guilty of killing her daughter with a crucifix in 2016.

Juanita Gomez, 51, was found guilty of first degree murder Jan. 11 in Oklahoma County court. The jury recommended she be sentenced to life in prison without parole. She will be formally sentenced on Feb. 12.

On Aug. 27, 2016, officers responded to a home in the 1500 block of N. McKinley. On scene they found Juanita's 33-year-old daughter, Geneva, lying unresponsive with a large cross on her chest. She was found to have severe trauma to her head and face.

Juanita later admitted to believing her daughter was possessed by the devil and repeatedly forcing a crucifix and religious medallion down her throat.

The trial kicked off on Wednesday.
