TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) — Oklahoma's first lady Sarah Stitt was joined by Lisa Pinnell, the wife of Lt. Gov. Matt Pinnell, and Congressman Kevin Hern's wife, Tammy Hern, as they toured the Little Light House.
"This is a huge blessing to our community, and so many communities don't have things like this," Stitt said.
The Little Light House provides classes and various therapies for children at no cost to parents.
"To have a special needs child is very difficult and to have these resources that these parents have is such a blessing, such a blessing," said Hern.
For more than 45 years, the faith-based program has welcomed children with special needs through its doors.
"We're so pleased that they came and so pleased that they're working together, and they have a heart for children with special needs and a heart for Little Light House," said Anne McCoy, the Little Light House associate director.
The Little Light House is growing, but there are still 300 children on the waiting list, and with today's high-profile visitors, it hopes to get the help needed to continue with its mission.
"We need to elevate the public awareness of what we have here in order to help support this program and bring them the volunteers and resources they need," said McCoy.
The Little Light House is privately funded and requires families of enrolled children to volunteer.
