For the second consecutive year, Will Rogers World Airport has set a passenger record.

"This has been an extremely good year, as far as traffic for Will Rogers World Airport," said Karen Carney, spokeswoman for the airport.

So far this year, nearly four million people have flown in and out of Will Rogers.

"By the time the end of December arrives, we’re guestimating we’ll probably be at 4.3 million passengers," Carney said.

She credits the increase on Oklahoma City's continued growth and several airlines choosing to add more options for passengers.

"We’ve seen a lot of new, great air service announcements," she said. "New non-stop to Philadelphia, new non-stop to Washington Ronald Reagan National Airport, additional markets – American to Phoenix. Lots of new service."

There are about 75 commercial flights departing from Will Rogers every day to 30 non-stop destinations.

The airport has been planning a terminal expansion to accommodate even more flights and passengers. The project will add four new airline gates and streamline security checkpoints. Construction will begin after the first of the year and is expected to last two years.

"I think that we will see a continued upward trajectory for Will Rogers World Airport," said Carney.

If you plan on flying in and out of Will Rogers for the Christmas or New Year's holiday, give yourself plenty of time. The parking garage is still under construction.
