Oklahoma will be getting a visit from one of the most visible faces in the fight against COVID-19.

On Wednesday, President Trump announced Dr. Deborah Birx, of the White House Coronavirus Task Force, will visit the Sooner State next week.

"Next week, Dr. Birx will visit Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Arkansas," said Trump at a daily briefing. The president said Dr. Birx will bring "aggressive, tailored and targeted guidance" for state and local leaders.

Over the weekend, Dr. Birx told CNN the COVID-19 pandemic had entered a new phase, saying the virus "is extraordinarily widespread" and has entered rural communities.

The president did not say what day Dr. Birx would be arriving, who she would meet with, or where she would meet them.

On Wednesday, Oklahoma added 1,101 new coronavirus cases and 17 new deaths.
