TPD: Parents arrested after 4-month-old found with broken bones, possible brain damage
TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) —
Tulsa police were called to St. Francis Hospital on Tuesday after a four-month-old girl was brought in by her parents with multiple broken bones.
Officers said the child was failing to thrive and had only gained one pound since she was born. They also found that she had fractures in different healing stages on both legs and two ribs, retinal hemorrhages and brain damage is likely. TPD said long term effects won't be known for a while.
Police said the father, 21-year-old Thomas Calloway, admitted to inflicting the injuries on the baby at various times over the last couple months by shaking, dropping and hitting the child. He also told officers he knew he'd injured the girl, but did not take her to the hospital.
TPD said the mother, 20-year-old Ashleigh Calloway (aka Stack), claimed she didn't know about the baby's injuries and low weight.
The DA's office approved child abuse charges on both parents on Friday and issued warrants for their arrest.
The Northern Oklahoma Violent Crimes Task Force arrested Thomas Calloway for child abuse and neglect and Ashleigh Calloway for child neglect. They are booked into the Tulsa County Jail.
