Report: Oklahomans owed $17 million for unfiled 2012 federal tax returns
A report from the IRS shows that Oklahomans are owed $17 million for unfiled tax returns.
The IRS announced last week that federal income tax refunds totaling $950 million may be waiting for an estimated one million taxpayers nation-wide who have not filed a return for 2012.
On Tuesday, Congressman Steve Russell issued an advisory stating that roughly 18,500 Oklahomans failed to file their 2012 tax returns. Those Oklahomans are collectively owed $17 million.
"Oklahomans work diligently for their hard earned money. If you were owed a refund, it is important that you redeem what is coming to you. It is also important to note that there is no penalty for filing a late return if you are due a refund," Russell said.
The window to file a return for 2012 closes April 18.
