A Putnam City West student has been booked into the Oklahoma County Jail after being accused of penetrating a fellow student with a broken broom stick.

Dawson Mclain, 19, was booked into the Oklahoma County Jail Wednesday on a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

He was released the same day on a $5,000 bond.

The charge comes in connection to a Sept. 28 incident in the football locker rooms at Putnam City West High School. A police report from Putnam City Campus Police alleges that Dawson and three other juvenile football players entered the freshman locker room at Putnam City West High School and grabbed a teammate.

The students carried the freshman to the varsity locker room. In the varsity locker room, three of the boys held the victim in the air while a third penetrated the boy's anus through his clothes with a "broken broom handle". The boys then dropped the victim.

The victim told police that he walked home after the incident and suffered pain from the penetration throughout the weekend.

Officers spoke with several witnesses who confirmed the incident and heard from several people who stated "that this type of thing had happened in the past". When school officials were talking with the alleged suspects, they stated that the "stick" had been passed down from class to class and that "upperclassmen will use a broom stick to haze underclassmen".

Three other defendants are listed on court documents. They will be charged in juvenile court. On Monday, a concerned Putnam City West parent expressed concerns with student safety at the school.
