A metro woman faces a child neglect complaint after police say she left her three young children home alone for several days.

The Oklahoma City Police Department reports that at 7 p.m. April 9 dispatch received a call from a child at an apartment in the 5900 block of S. May Avenue.

The 11-year-old girl stated she thought her mom was missing because she had left the residence to go to Texas on April 6 and has not returned. The child said the woman was supposed to be back on April 8 and had not answered any of the girl's calls.

The girl told police that she was caring for her 3-year-old and 4-year-old younger siblings during that time and that they had been eating leftover pizza and soup.

As DHS arrived at the home to take custody of the kids, the girl's mother, 30-year-old Shelly Harjo, arrived back at the home.

Harjo reportedly told police that she had lined up a friend to watch the children but the friend never made it to Oklahoma City. The children were then taken into custody and Harjo was arrested on a complaint of child neglect.
