A man was arrested in Oklahoma City after police say he destroyed a animal crate with a dog inside and then threw the dog.

The Oklahoma City Police Department reports that Qoquice Brown, 37, was arrested Aug. 12 on a complaint of animal cruelty.

Officers were called just before midnight to a home in the 2200 block of NW 35 Street to a disturbance. When an officer arrived they found Brown and another individual arguing over who owned a puppy.

The officer noted that the dog was having trouble standing on its own and was having a hard time breathing. Witnesses told police that Brown had come to the house to take the dog and a verbal arguement ensued. During the fight, Brown took a crate containing the dog and slammed it on the ground. The crate broke and Brown picked up the dog and allegedly threw it.

The officer transported the dog to a local veterinarian for treatment. Brown was arrested and booked into the Oklahoma County Jail.
