OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (KOKH) — Oklahoma has been propping up an electric vehicle company that is now delivering.
The first fleet of vehicles will soon be leaving the Canoo facility and heading to the Office of Management and Enterprise Services (OMES).
The state has an around $100M incentive agreement with Canoo, which is built on the promise to bring more than a thousand jobs to Oklahoma.
Tony Aquila, the CEO of Canoo, is hoping to bring 120 jobs to OKC by the end of the year.
Although there's an incentive package on the table, the company has to perform to get paid.
"We still have never taken a dollar from the state of Oklahoma, just to be clear," Aquila said.
Aquila said the company's goal is to consolidate from other states and bring 80% of their business to Oklahoma.
Canoo is also prioritizing building fleets instead of building out the consumer market, to stay competitive in the EV economy.
"We're focused on industrial, military, DOD, because they're buying components of this technology," Aquila said.
FOX25 was given a tour of the facility and rollout of the first three of what Aquila said will be a one thousand vehicle state order.
