The Oklahoma City Fire Department was called to the 13300 block of Plaza Terrace, the Quail Ridge Apartments, just before 3 a.m. Sunday.

On arrival the firefighters called for a third alarm due to the heavy fire. The amount of fire kept the firefighters outside and prevented an attack of the fire from inside the building or to do an immediate search for victims, according to an OKCFD spokesperson.

A man at the scene told the firefighters he had escaped the second floor by jumping from the balcony and that his girlfriend and three children were still inside. Once the firefighters could enter the building they searched for victims and found the woman and two of the children. After a continued search, about 8 a.m., firefighters found a third child, all four of the victims were dead.

OKCFD reports eight apartments had fire damage and that about a dozen other units had smoke and/or water damage. Firefighters were unable to determine if smoke alarms were in use and the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
