Newly widened I-235 to be completely reopened Friday
OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) —
All lanes of I-235 will be back open Friday as crews wrap up work on another phase of the on-going redesign of one of the busiest thoroughfares in the metro.
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation has says that all lanes of the newly widened I-235 between I-44 and N. 36 Street will be opened on Friday. Crews began working on this phase of an ongoing project to redesign the I-235 and I-44 interchange in the summer of 2016. Throughout the course of construction, I-235 has been completely shut down several times.
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation reports that crews finished this phase about a year ahead of schedule and earned approximately $3 million in incentives. The agency says that the N. 50 Street on-ramp to I-235 will be closed permanently. Drivers will still be able to exit I-235 to N. 50 Street.
The agency is already planning the next phase of the project: to widen the I-235 bridge over I-44. That construction is set to begin next spring.
