Music Store employees risk injury to save $4,000 guitar during burglary

Music Store employees risk injury to save guitar during burglary

A group of employees risked injury to protect merchandise during a burglary.

A man tried to steal a $4,000 guitar from a music store near 31st and Mingo. Surveillance video shows the man running for the door with the guitar when one employee jumps over the counter to stop him.

Several employees struggled with him at the door then followed him outside.

Employees say he then pulled a knife on them as he got into his car.

"As he was getting into his car, just full-on adrenaline mode, I went over and tried to open the door, and he had locked it, so I just reared back and hit it with my fist, and it shattered," said Music Store employee Zain Rushenberg.

The broken window helped police catch the suspect. Officers found him trying to get his car fixed at a glass repair shop a short time later.

Jacob Slayton is being held on multiple complaints including grand larceny and assault with a dangerous weapon. Merissa Slayton was with him and is also being held for grand larceny and drug possession.

Police recovered the guitar, but it is damaged.
