Medical marijuana Food Safety and Standards Board to hold first meetings

The board created to establish food and safety standards for medical marijuana in Oklahoma will hold their first meetings this week.

The Food and Safety Standards Board will meet from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 14 and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 15.The meetings will be available online here. The first meeting will see the board discuss the definitions of food as it deals with medical marijuana and food processing rules.


The board plans to develop a timeframe and action plan to establish food safety standards during the second day of meetings. Oklahomans are able to submit applications online beginning at 10 a.m. Aug. 25.

Governor Mary Fallin has signed revised rules taking out two controversial amendments to the medical marijuana rules that would have banned the sale of smokable products and required a pharmacist in every dispensary.

A bi-partisan group of lawmakers has been meeting every Wednesday to establish recommendations for the implementation of medical marijuana in the state.
