The chief of staff for an Oklahoma Senator has been nominated for Assistant Secretary of the Navy.

President Donald Trump nominated Retired Rear Admiral Gregory Slavonic recently to be Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Manpower and Reserve Affairs. Slavonic currently serves as Senator James Lankford's chief of staff. Lanford applauded the move.

“Rear Admiral Greg Slavonic is the model of public service. He has dutifully served our nation in the Navy, and he has served the people of Oklahoma as my Chief of Staff. He has been nominated to serve our country again in the Department of Defense. I am very proud of his long career and dedication to this nation," Lankford said.

Slavonic is a native Oklahoman and retired from the Navy after a 34-year career. He held four command assignments during his career and served in Vietnam, Operation Desert Shield/Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
