This morning more than a hundred people took part in a rally at the state capitol to expand health care coverage in Oklahoma.
This was put on by Together OK on the south side the Captiol. There was a free shuttle service and parking available at Remington Park. This was all an effort to call on lawmakers to expand health coverage for the more than 100,000 currently uninsured Oklahomans.
"There is a phenomenon in Oklahoma called the coverage crater. Literally, people under 138% of the federal poverty limit don't qualify for subsidies in the federal health insurance marketplace, and yet these folks don't qualify for Medicaid. So many of these folks are really low-income hard-working Oklahomans, who may have one or more minimum wage jobs, and their employer doesn't provide health insurance," said Patti Davis, President of the Oklahoma Hospital Association.
Together OK is a nonpartisan coalition of citizens working to connect Oklahoma values to state budget priorities.
