A former nurse who worked at the Robert M. Greer Center is suing the corporation that oversees the center after reports surfaced that residents have been physically abused.

The lawsuit is against Liberty of Oklahoma Corporation (LOC), Liberty Healthcare Corporation (LHC), and CEO and Executive Director Hugh Sage.

The lawsuit states the Plaintiff started working at the center in 2023 and reported the abuse to her managers, but she was ignored.

She was then harassed and retaliated against by her co-workers at the center for reporting the abuse and neglect, according to the lawsuit.

The lawsuit claims this caused her severe anxiety and depression.

The suit claims the Defendants "lowered the standard of care below that which is acceptable in the industry, and violated state law, resulting in harm to Greer Center employees and residents."

According to the lawsuit, staff would often lie while filing out Client Injury Reports to cover up abuse, and would lie about providing the required level of care.

Since November 2023, at least eight employees of Liberty Healthcare have been arrested or charged in relation to the physical abuse of residents at the Greer Center, according to the lawsuit.

Abuse reports included waterboarding, choking, beating, kicking, and enticing residents with intellectual disabilities to abuse each other.

The lawsuit seeks compensatory and punitive damages, attorney's fees and cost of litigation, and any other relief entitled to the Plaintiff.

A judge filed motions to dismiss charges against all but one defendant in a previous abuse case involving the Robert M. Greer Center, and cited the inability to find a key witness.
