Two northern Oklahoma schools are investigating after a noose was found by students returning to a locker room during a football game.

The noose was discovered by middle school students from Ponca City Public Schools Sept. 26 as they entered the locker room at D. Bruce Selby Stadium in Enid following a 7th and 8th grade football game.

Enid Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Darrell Floyd and Ponca City Schools Superintendent Shelley Arrott issued a joint statement Wednesday confirming the incident.

"Enid Public Schools and Ponca City Public Schools have a close working relationship and are coordinating together, with their administration and athletic departments, to investigate and address this issue." the statement reads.

Officials were notified of the noose by Ponca City parents. The noose, which was made from a USB cord, was then recovered from the showers in the locker room.

"Neither school district condones this behavior, which is insensitive and unacceptable. The person responsible, when found, will be held accountable for his or her actions. Additionally, we will continue to educate our students about tolerance and respect for others, in all situations."
