Prosecutors are charging a 13-year-old Lincoln County boy as an adult after the killing of a 10-year-old with a crossbow.

According to court documents, Shane Brooks was charged with first-degree murder in the death of Austin Almanza.

In October, Lincoln County Sheriff Charlie Dougherty said Brooks was playing with Almanza and his 8-year-old brother Ayden at a tree house near Chandler. Dougherty said at the time there was "a disagreement" between the three before the shooting took place.

A broadhead arrow shot from the crossbow traveled through Austin's body and struck his 8-year-old brother, Ayden, who was standing behind him. Austin died on scene, while Ayden was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Brooks was taken into custody a short time later.

On Thursday, a judge ordered Brooks undergo a psychological evaluation.
