Three people injured in explosion in Kingfisher County

Multiple people have been injured in an explosion at Wednesday in Kingfisher County.

The Kingfisher County Sheriff Dennis Banther says that just after 3 p.m. July 18 deputies were called to reports of an explosion at a saltwater disposal well along Calumet Road three miles south of SH-33.

Three people were injured in the explosion and resulting fire and transported to a local hospital. The extent of their injuries are not known at this time. The fire was quickly extinguished at the plant. No evacuations were required.

Several fire departments, ambulances and deputies were sent to the scene where they found three people injured from the explosion and fire. The site is owned by Devon Energy. A spokesperson for the company confirmed that an ignition and fire occurred at the site and that the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The fire burned several semis and vehicles at the well.
