Authorities investigating after skeletal remains found in Newcastle near Canadian River
NEWCASTLE, Okla. (KOKH) —
Authorities are investigating after skeletal remains were discovered in Newcastle near the Canadian River.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation confirms that a man contacted Newcastle police April 4 stating he had found a body while mushroom hunting. Authorities then searched an area of the Canadian River near the 1000 block of NE 34 Street where they found skeletal remains.
A forensic anthropologist from the Oklahoma State Medical Examiner's Office and archaeologists from OU are on scene assisting police and OSBI agents in a search for the remains.
Several bones have been discovered in the area. It is too early in the investigation to determine the gender or identity of the remains.
