An Amber Alert has been canceled for a missing Norman infant believed to be with his father.

Norman police took 31-year-old Victor Minjarez into custody Wednesday night, but the investigation into the whereabouts of 7-month-old Jody Minjarez is still ongoing.

According to the Norman Police Department, their investigation began on Feb. 19 when officers were called to a domestic assault in the 1500 block of Lakecrest Drive. Officers say Minjarez had violently attacked the mother of his child and fled the home with their son, Jody.

The woman obtained a Victim Protective Order against Minjarez on Feb. 23 that ordered the baby to be returned to her, but he did not comply.

Recently, police say Minjarez sent a message to a friend stating that the woman would never see Jody again. Based on those text messages, police notified the media on Tuesday of the missing and endangered infant.

Early Wednesday, an Amber Alert was issued for the child.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 immediately or the Norman Police Department at 405-321-1444.
