18-year-old critically injured in Norman crash

An 18-year-old is in critical condition following a crash early Saturday in Norman.

The Norman Police Department reports that at approximately 9:45 a.m. Feb. 3 a Dodge Caravan was traveling southbound on 108 Avenue SE approaching Post Oak Road when it struck a Chevrolet TrailBlazer driving eastbound on Post Oak. Police say the driver of the TrailBlazer, 18-year-old Jacob Babcock, failed to notice the intersection's stop sign when his vehicle entered the roadway and was struck.

The Trailblazer continued into a nearby wooded area and caught fire. The Caravan rolled and landed on its roof in the roadway. Babcock was transported from the scene in critical condition. A 15-year-old passenger was treated for minor injuries.

The driver of the Caravan, 54-year-old Susan Morris, was transported to an area hospital for non-life threatening injuries. A passenger in the vehicle, 55-year-old Carl Morris, was also transported. Both were treated and released.

The roadway was closed for four hours while the crash was investigated.
