While certain Democratic members of Congress decided to bring guests to President Trump’s State of the Union address in order to troll the president, the First Family brought guests who are speaking to what makes our country special when we choose greatness over partisan politics.
The White House invited 13 individuals to attend the State of the Union address and their unique backgrounds allow us a window into what we can expect the administration to work on for the rest of the year and beyond.
These themes include common sense problem-solving and, of course, border security.
The First Lady invited those who are not only dedicated to combatting the immigration crisis at our southern border but those who have been the victims of terrible violence that occurs when our flawed immigration system fails our citizens.
The White House invited several individuals who are persevering and serve as inspirations to those fighting the opioid crisis. Also invited are men and women who are back contributing to society because of bipartisan criminal justice reform legislation.
Diving into each of these individual’s story in the short time I have with you today would not do each one of them justice – I’d encourage you to watch the president’s speech and think about what each of the guests represent to ALL Americans.
Here’s the bottom line: The guests of the White House embody the outstanding resilience and strength of the American spirit.
I look forward to watching each of these individuals continue to carry the torch forward as messengers for what our country can achieve when we set aside our differences and embrace what makes our country great.
Hopefully our government does not let them down.
