OHP praises actions of trooper who tackled OU fan who ran on field
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is praising the work of a trooper after he tackled a fan who ran onto the field during an OU game Saturday.
According to the OHP, Trooper Brian Orr is one of several state troopers assigned extra duty for the safety and security of OU's football team staff during games.
OHP spokesperson Captain George Brown said Orr observed a suspicious person unlawfully enter the playing field Saturday and quickly took him into custody.
"(Trooper Orr) perceived a legitimate threat and quickly acted upon that threat by subduing the suspect and taking him into custody." Brown said.
The OHP notes that with the steady increase in security measures during outdoor sporting events, Orr's actions were necessary and appropriate given the unknown circumstance the suspect presented.
Ronald Mais was turned over to OU police following the incident where he was given a citation for disturbing the peace. He was released on his own recognizance.
