Joe Mixon won't play this season
NORMAN — Joe Mixon's freshmen season at Oklahoma is over before it even started. The five star running back from Oakley, California was suspended for the upcoming season by the University of Oklahoma. The suspension came on the same day he had his first court appearance where he's accused of punching a 20 year old coed in the face and breaking several bones. OU head coach Bob Stoops was not anxious to discuss the issue after Monday's practice.."I'm not going to address the time table, it is what it is and we made a decision here today that was announced and that's all I'm going to say about it, I'm not going to say anything else in regard to it," said Stoops.. Whether Mixon played or not there are several running backs who would be fighting to play. A couple of sophomore's in Alex Ross and Keith Ford are the leading contenders for playing time along with true freshmen Semaje Perine. Daniel Brooks was the star of the spring game and is in the competition along with David Smith, a redshirt sophomore who hasn't played in a game at OU. "A lot of those guys are going to need to play for us, says OU quarterback Trevor Knight.. Semaje Perine has been a hammer in there. Just pounding the football doing a really good job. Keith Ford has been doing a great job. Alex Ross has been doing a great job and Daniel Brooks and David Smith. And their competing as well. It's fun to watch them compete and have fun in a scrimmage atmosphere and compete for extra yards."
