The Oklahoma Sooners football team is in a familiar spot in the season's first Associated Press Football Poll. The Sooners are ranked 4th by the nation's writers and broadcasters. It's the 33rd time that Oklahoma has started the season in the rankings top five which is more than any other team in college football.
Florida State starts out as the number one team. The defending National Champions got 57 of the 60 first place votes with Alabama, Oregon, Oklahoma and Ohio State rounding out the top five.
Auburn, UCLA, Michigan State, South Carolina and Baylor are sixth thru tenth. Kansas State at number 20 is the only other Big 12 team ranked. The SEC leads the way with eight teams in the Top 25.
If the poll extended beyond 25 teams Oklahoma State would come in 33rd.
