The real OSU? Oklahoma State and Ohio State take up trademark battle

Oklahoma State is taking on Ohio State. But this time, the two will do battle in a courtroom.

According to the Columbus Dispatch, Oklahoma State University has filed an appeal with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in reaction to Ohio State's attempt to own the "OSU" acronym rights.

The application for trademark was reportedly filed in February.

The patent office has approved OK State's appeal and has given the university until August to file a formal complaint.

The Dispatch reports the two schools, along with Oregon State University, have had concurrent usage agreements for the acronym in the past.
