Gibson, McDermott cleared to play, excited to be in Oklahoma City
OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) —
Taj Gibson and Doug McDermott met with the media for the first time as Thunder players Friday prior to their debut in Oklahoma City.
The Thunder acquired the players in a trade deadline deal Feb. 23 with the Chicago Bulls. The trade sent Anthony Morrow, Cameron Payne and Joffrey Lauvergne to Chicago. The Thunder also landed a second round NBA Draft pick in the trade.
Gibson and McDermott landed in Oklahoma City around midnight Friday. The two went through physicals and met teammates. For Gibson, it was his first time coming to a new team after eight years in the league.
"It's a crazy feeling...It was a lot but I'm excited to be here," Gibson said.
The two will be available to play Friday against the Lakers.
"Gotta learn on the fly...There is no better way to learn than to be on court with the guys," McDermott said.
Both said they were looking forward to the team's style of play and playing with Russell Westbrook.
"I've always thought highly of the guys in Oklahoma City. Being here is even better than I thought it would be," Gibson said.
The Thunder and Lakers tip off at 7 p.m. in Oklahoma City.
