OSBI Investigating OK County Sheriff's Office Following Fox 25 Investigation

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is now on the
case, following a Fox 25 Investigation. 
Fox 25 confirms Sheriff John Whetsel called the OSBI to
investigate.  Sheriff Whetsel admitted
inmate labor was used on materials for his reelection campaign.

Sheriff Whetsel says his investigation revealed one inmate
was used to load and unload the metal poles that are now holding up his
campaign signs.  However an inmate tells
Fox 25, he cut and painted the metal.  A former inmate at the Oklahoma County Jail told Fox 25,
“I've cut it twice. They wanted me to cut it into four foot lengths and I spray
painted the tips of it white.”

Fox 25 also has pictures a former inmate says shows him cutting the
poles with other inmates around.  “It doesn't matter who cut it, the fact of the matter is it
shouldn't have been cut on county property,” Whetsel said, “and the fact of the
matter is inmates shouldn't have had anything to do with it period.”

Sheriff Whetsel says he is sorry this happened and he is
still investigating to see what will happen to the employees involved. 
"This should not have happened.  It did, but it should not have
happened and it won't again."
