Bionic Suit Helps Woman Walk After 9 Years In A Wheelchair
Technology helps a woman walk after 9 years in a wheel chair.
Sarah
Anderson was paralyzed after she was hit by a drunk driver. She was
told she would never walk again. Now, 9 years later new technology is
allowing Sarah to do something she never thought was possible. Sarah is
able to walk.
“The first step was mesmerizing. I never thought this was possible,” Sarah said.
A bionic, battery powered, ready to wear suit allows wheelchair users
like Sarah to stand and walk. A person gets inside the suit and it
actually steps for them. Step lengths and speed are controlled by a
remote.
Right now the suit is only available for physical therapy but the creators hope to make it available to the public very soon.
A student at OSU will be testing the technology at Integris Jim
Thorpe Rehabilitation. She says she is very excited and can’t wait to
take that first step!
