Time waning for Okla. lawmakers to tackle credits
May 18, 2013 19:10 GMT
By SEAN MURPHY Associated Press
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Despite calls by several Oklahoma legislators to address hundreds of millions of dollars in state tax credits and exemptions for businesses and industries, little has been done as another session approaches its end.
At the same time, other legislators are still trying to write even more tax giveaways into state law for things like tickets and hospitality suites to sporting events and the sale of helicopters.
Longtime tax credit critic Rep. David Dank calls the proposals for new credits "stealth efforts" and says they should be killed before they reach the governor's desk.
Dank sponsored a bill earlier this session to ensure tax credits undergo more rigorous scrutiny, but the bill was derailed in a Senate committee.
