Hawaii: Kilauea volcano-before/after satellite images
Before and after satellite images on Hawaii's Big Island show damage from lava flows in the area surrounding the Kilauea volcano.
These are shots of Leilani Estates -- a residential community near Pahoa.
Volcanic rock now covers asphalt. Trees and vegetation have burned and homes turned to ash.
The Kilaueau volcano erupted May 3rd.
The U. S. Geological Survey issued a Red Alert this week -- which means another eruption is imminent or underway.
Officials said an eruption could send ash plumes up to 12 miles away from the summit crater.
Residents also have to worry about the sulfur dioxide gases coming from the lava flows.
