Oklahoma's Most Wanted: Ryan Rust
OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) —
Each week we feature seven of Oklahoma County's most wanted. One of the seven will be selected by the "Wheel of Justice" to be featured on air. Learn more here.
Ryan Lee Rust, 29, was wanted in Oklahoma County on a warrant for domestic abuse by strangulation, kidnapping, domestic abuse in the presence of a minor and interrupting an emergency call. The warrant was filed June 16, 2017. Court documents show Rust's wife asked him to leave their home in Edmond because of his abusive behavior.
"Apparently threw her up against the wall, hit her several times. Threatened to do bodily harm to her and then also when she tried to call 911, took the phone away," said Oklahoma County Sheriff's spokesperson Mark Opgrande.
Documents show he punched a hole in the wall next to her head. He then threw her down on the floor, covering her mouth and nose so she couldn't breathe. He then hit her twice in the right eye, as well as her mouth.
"It's a situation that no one wants to be in and so in this case we're hoping that the public will be able to know where this person is," Opgrande said.
Oklahoma County Sheriff officials said this is Domestic Violence Awareness month. The sheriff's office did a warrant sweep earlier this month, focusing on domestic abuse. Opgrande said it's a problem in the community that they want to make people aware of.
"A lot of these individuals that we are looking for, as far as the wheel of justice as well, have some type of domestic abuse associated with their case," Opgrande said. "A lot of them have other charges as well."
Court records show Rust faced previous charges of False Pawn Declaration and Knowingly Concealing Stolen Property.
"This is not someone that we want walking around. We want to be able to get them in custody and then put them in front of a judge," Opgrande said. "Again, these are just charges. He's not be convicted of anything, but these are very serious charges that he needs to answer for."
