Snakes on the loose after rollover accident in Texas

SBG San Antonio

Emergency crews have their hands full after a van transporting snakes and an alligator crashed in Southwest Bexar County in Texas.

The accident happened around 12:30 p.m. Thursday on Interstate 35 near Shepherd Road. Deputies say a rear tire on the van blew out, causing the van to roll over onto the access road and land on its side.

The driver was initially trapped inside the van. A 9-year-old boy was also inside of the van.

Deputies say 30 snakes, including rattlesnakes and cottonmouths, were being transported in the van. There was also a baby alligator and a tortoise inside the van. However, no snake or animal bites were reported.

The two victims were both taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center.

Lytle Animal Control was on site to extract the snakes, which are privately owned.
