Jesse Wade Himes (Prince William County Police)

A registered violent sex offender was arrested Monday after trying to enter a child day care center in Woodbridge, police say.

Jesse Wade Himes, 53, of no known address, walked through the exterior doors at The Goddard School at 5490 Staples Mill Plaza in Woodbridge Monday at about 2 p.m., according to a statement from the Prince William County Police Department.

Himes entered the vestibule of the building but was stopped by locked doors on the interior, police say. He was then seen looking through the interior glass doors.

When staff members responded, Himes left on foot, and they called police.

Officers responding to the scene found Himes shortly after he left, determined that he was listed as a sex offender, and arrested him.

Himes was charged with being present on the property of a child day care center during school hours as a registered violent sex offender.

He is being held without bond and has a court date of September 18.
