Unlocking the Vault: Mysteries and Marvels of the Museum

Unlocking the Vault: Mysteries and Marvels of the Museum gives the visitor a unique look at why, what, and how museums collect.

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK (KOKH) Most museums typically do not put everything they own out on display for exhibits. They keep them in the vault and individually add them to a corresponding exhibit that fits the occasion. The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum’s latest exhibit takes those items and puts them on display with "Unlocking the Vault: Mysteries and Marvels of the Museum."

The exhibit, running now through May 13, 2018, presents a variety of items that have seldom been “out of the vault,” and gives the visitor a unique look at why, what, and how museums collect. Items like John Wayne's personal Buddha sculptures to dueling pistols from France. Visitors get a potpourri of items that have previously been locked up.

The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum is located at 1700 Northeast 63rd Street in Oklahoma City. For more information, visit www.nationalcowboymuseum.org
