Several arrested in connection with heroin, human trafficking ring in east Tulsa, BA

Several people are in custody after numerous law enforcement agencies conducted search warrants in connection with a heroin and human trafficking ring in Tulsa and Wagoner Counties.

The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office says eight people are in custody after more than 100 officers, deputies and agents conducted raids on eight residences in east Tulsa and Broken Arrow.

Deputies say the search warrants stem from a months-long investigation into the heroin and human trafficking ring connected to drug cartels in Mexico. The suspects involved in the operation would typically smuggle immigrants and drugs over the border, and the immigrants would then work for the heroin ring in order to pay off a "debt," according to the sheriff's office.

Investigators recovered a large amount of cash, heroin and other drugs and paraphernalia during the raids, according to the sheriff's office.

Homeland Security, the FBI, the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, the DEA, the Tulsa Police Department and the Wagoner County Sheriff's Office were also involved in conducting the search warrants.
