Some of the worst damage was in western Oklahoma town of Cordell where according to witnesses multiple tornadoes touched down Thursday afternoon.

The tornado toppled trees and tore roofs from homes. Several out buildings were also destroyed as the storm rolled through town.

One business hardest hit was Cordell Guns. The wind tore the roof off. One of the owners, Rick Cook said he was able to salvage the guns.

“I got the guns out shortly after it happened,” Cook told FOX 25, “Everything was soaked in water but I got them.”

The ammunition and accessories will likely be a total loss due to water damage. Cook said they will begin cleanup Friday morning and contact the insurance department.

Across the street from Cordell Guns, the power went out at the quick stop convenience store. The Washita County Emergency Manager confirmed that after the power went out someone hit the clerk in the head with a gun and robbed the store. The clerk was not seriously injured.

The town lost power, which included the hospital. Emergency Manager Sandy Settle told FOX 25 the hospital went to a backup generator which also lost power. The hospital was able to access a second generator which was able to supply the hospital with power.

The county reported no injuries from the storm.
