Police identify man hit and killed by vehicle late Monday in Midwest City
MIDWEST CITY, Okla. (KOKH) —
Authorities have identified a man hit and killed by a vehicle late Monday in Midwest City.
Midwest City Police Department Chief Brandon Clabes reports that around 11 p.m. April 2 officers were notified of a man lying in the street in the 1200 block of N. Air Depot.
An officer arrived on scene and found 23-year-old Gage Murphy, of Oklahoma City, unresponsive in the inside northbound lane of the road. A witness told police that a SUV had struck Murphy and then slowed down to a stop before leaving towards NE 23 Street and N. Air Depot.
Police located the driver of the vehicle and made contact with a female driver. The driver told police that she thought she had struck an animal and had left the scene. Police observed damage to the woman's vehicle.
“The victim was dressed in dark clothing and walking southbound in the center of the street where there is limited or no lighting,” Clabes said. “Our traffic fatality investigators will complete their findings and forward the information to the Oklahoma County district attorney’s office to determine if any charges will be filed.”
Police say the female driver was interviewed, had a toxicology drawn and later released.
