Police: 10 arrested after marijuana found by teacher in child's Easter egg basket

SHAWNEE, Okla. (KOKH) - Ten people were arrested after a marijuana cigarette was allegedly found in a student's Easter egg basket at a Pottawatomie County school.

The Shawnee Police Department reports that at 3:30 p.m. April 12 officers were called to a local school after a teacher allegedly found the marijuana in a student's basket while counting eggs. School officials learned that the student's aunt had dropped off the basket at the school for her niece.

On the evening of April 12, officers served a search warrant on a home at 304 S. Osage. During the warrant search, officers allegedly smelled a strong odor of marijuana in the home.

Inside the home were 10 adults and six juveniles. While searching the home, an officer allegedly observed an adult female stuff a glass smoking pipe with a white residue down her pants.

Officers also allegedly found four Styrofoam containers with marijuana growing in them on the back porch of the home. Other drug paraphernalia was also reportedly found in the home.

The six juveniles were released to the care of the Department of Human Services.

The following people were arrested in the home:

  • James Ponkilla, 22, on complaints of endeavoring to cultivate marijuana, child neglect, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a controlled dangerous substance (marijuana), and possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Stanley Johnson, 21, on complaints of endeavoring to cultivate marijuana, child neglect, possession of a controlled dangerous substance (marijuana), and possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Dylan Ponkilla, 31, on complaints of endeavoring to cultivate marijuana, child neglect, possession of a controlled dangerous substance (marijuana), and possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Charles Ponkilla, 19, on complaints of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Thomas Walters, 21, on complaints of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Bobby Billey, 33, on complaints of endeavoring to cultivate marijuana, child neglect, and possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Brenda Ponkilla, 56, on complaints of endeavoring to cultivate marijuana, child neglect, possession of a controlled dangerous substance (methamphetamine), and possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Alisha Ponkilla, 27, on complaints of endeavoring to cultivate marijuana and child neglect
  • Maia Davis, 25, on complaints of endeavoring to cultivate marijuana and child neglect
  • Crystal Ponkilla, 37, on complaints of endeavoring to cultivate marijuana and child neglect
