OHP: 2 dead, 5 injured following accident on I-35 near Purcell

Two people have died and 5 others have been taken to the hospital after a crash near Purcell Monday.

The accident happened around 3:20 p.m near the Purcell exit at mile marker 91. OHP officials report that a semi was stopped, possibly due to highway congestion or a different accident, when an SUV traveling north crashed into the back of the semi.

Two people died at the scene, and 5 others were taken to the hospital with at least one person in critical condition, according to Oklahoma Highway Patrol Capt. Paul Timmons.

I-35 northbound has reopened. It was closed for about 3 hours between mile marker 86 in McClain County and mile marker 96 in Purcell.
