OBN: Shooting suspect dies after purposefully swerving into traffic during chase
OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) —
Authorities say a shooting suspect died after purposefully crashing head-on with a semi near El Reno.
The Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics reports that at approximately 8:30 a.m. Feb. 17 authorities received information about a driver shooting at a car along westbound Interstate 40 near Weatherford. Soon after, a vehicle pulled up to an OBN unit near the Geary exit on I-40 and reported that someone shot out their vehicle's window and pointed officers towards a white vehicle.
The suspect vehicle then drove in front of the OBN unit. The vehicle led authorities on the Highway 81 and refused to pull over.
The OBN states that the car then purposefully swerved in front of an oncoming semi, hitting it head on as the chase approached SH-152. The driver died in the crash. Inside the suspect's vehicle, authorities found a shotgun and shell casings.
OBN is still working to identify the suspect and determine if the two shootings were isolated. The driver of the semi involved in the crash was taken to a local hospital. No one was injured in the two shootings.
