Police say a man dragged an officer with his vehicle during a DUI arrest in Oklahoma City.

The Oklahoma City Police Department reports that at approximately 4:43 a.m. May 15 police were called to a man passed out in a running Honda Civic parked at 1901 E. Reno.

Officers made contact with the driver, later identified as 22-year-old Virgil Shane Spencer. In the vehicle, police reportedly observed a 20 pack of beer. Spencer would not respond to officers when they knocked on the window attempting to wake him up.

Spencer eventually woke up and began attempting to put the car into gear. Officers stated several times they would break his window if he did not comply and were then forced to do so. One of the officers reached into the window and attempted to shut off the vehicle, at this time Spencer got the vehicle in gear and drove off.

After being dragged approximately 20 yards, the officer was able to turn on the parking brake of the vehicle and bring it to a stop. A second officer then broke the passenger window of the vehicle and pulled Spencer out. He was then taken into custody on complaints of driving under the influence, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, obstructing an officer and operating a motor vehicle without a restricted license.
