Cleveland County Commissioners have appointed an interim sheriff following the resignation of former sheriff Joe Lester.

Moore-native Todd Gibson will take over the position immediately. Gibson is a retired Norman Police Department captain and has served as incident commander for several natural disasters in the county.

“As a career law enforcement officer, I have and will continue to provide support, resources, and encouragement to all levels of the criminal justice system and to all our community’s leaders." Gibson said. "I serve without fear of speaking up for what is right, and not just what I think someone wants to hear. I pledge to serve with a spirit of cooperation and candidness to solve our issues and continue to move this county to a new level of excellence.”

Cleveland County Commissioner Rod Cleveland stated that Gibson has a legacy of serving the county.

"Whether it is serving with the Norman Police Department, serving as a Trustee with the Pioneer Library Board or coaching youth soccer; Todd Gibson can be counted on to step up," Cleveland said.

Lester resigned Oct. 2 amid accusations of financial mismanagement at the sheriff's office.
