State medical examiner says human remains found in Pottawatomie County
POTTAWATOMIE COUNTY, Okla. (KOKH) —
An investigation is underway in Pottawatomie County after human remains were found Thursday washed up from the Canadian River near the Wanette-Byars Bridge south of Wanette, Okla. near the McClain County line.
The remains have been sent to the Oklahoma Medical Examiner office, which has confirmed the remains are human.
"For being next to the river," said Pottawatomie County Undersheriff J. T. Travis, "it could be a number of things. It could be a missing person from somebody that has washed down. It's very possible, here in Oklahoma, it could be from Native American burial grounds.
There has been no reported missing person in Pottawatomie County for the past ten years.
The PCSO expects more information next week.
