Quick moving grass fire burns over 100 acres in northeast Oklahoma City
OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) —
A grass fire quickly spread and burned over 100 acres as well as several homes Thursday in Oklahoma City.
The Oklahoma City Fire Department reports that shortly before 2 p.m. a grass fire was reported in the 10000 block of N. Kelley. The fire has burned over 100 acres and has spread to the porch of a home. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire on the porch after arriving.
High winds and dry materials caused the fire to spread rapidly to the north. Students at nearby Classical Christian Studies are sheltering in place as a precaution. Oklahoma Centennial High School students are on Spring Break. Approximately 50 firefighters were on scene working to control the fire. Firefighters say that the fire damaged a home and several vehicles near Hefner Road. By 4:30 p.m. firefighters had gotten control of the fire.
Drivers were urged to avoid Hefner Road while firefighters battled the blaze.
